Callie and the Rubik's Cube

Back arched, hair erect

as the leaning tower of Pisa,

Callie glares at the Rubik’s Cube.

In the vast recesses of her mind,

which extends beyond human awareness of space and time,

she has solved it easily,

visualized every move

conjured a similar puzzle in 4, 5, even 7 dimensions.

But she has

no way to manipulate

the physical cube.

Callie has poetry in her

more intricate, more passionate

than Shakespeare

stories to tell, worlds to unfold

but no means to express it.

All she can do is

meow.

With fierce swiftness,

Callie

pounces.

The Rubik’s Cube

is indifferent.
